Blundellsands author reveals Liverpool’s links to classical gods and goddesses in new book

A BLUNDELLSANDS author has published his latest book.

Classical Liverpool: Language, Sculpture & Architecture by Hugh Hollinghurst explores the history and significance of some of Liverpool’s most memorable buildings and sculptures.

Mr Hollinghurst, chairman of the Crosby & District Historical Society, said: “It translates the Latin inscriptions that you can see, and explains their significance.

“It gives you the knowledge of the gods and goddesses of the Greeks and Romans, their associated myths, legends and symbols that give public sculptures their full effect.

“The book also describes and illustrates the magnificent buildings in the classical style of architecture, tells what to look for and where to find it.

“A series of walks with maps is integrated into the work so that it can be used as a guidebook, and it is fully indexed with cross references.

“Most architectural features are illustrated with over 150 photographs, to give you enjoyment and fresh insights into Liverpool’s great classical tradition.”

The book is on sale, priced £7.99 at Pritchards bookshop, Crosby Village and available from all good bookshops – ISBN 978-0-9559428-0-8 rrp £10
